ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: One common health problem observed among teleworkers is musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study aimed to explore the challenges encountered by teleworkers living with pain related to MSDs in performing their occupations.

METHODS: The study was inspired by an interpretative qualitative descriptive approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 teleworkers from Quebec (Canada) who had experienced pain related to MSDs within the year before the study.

RESULTS: The results were grouped into two main themes: 1) challenges in the teleworking environment related to the physical work environment, social environment, nature of tasks, and time management, and 2) challenges to perform occupations. Despite increased pain, participants reported a strong desire to continue teleworking due to its flexibility.

CONCLUSIONS: The results underscore the need for improved telework interventions and policies that prioritize health and well-being.
